Some of the common Practices followed in Ancient Vedic India

- Stem cell therapy
- Asexual mode of reproduction
- Organ transplantation
- Surrogacy
- Cloning
They are TRUE, as the descriptions are available as mentioned in the epics and books of those eras. (Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagvad Purana, Vedas and many more)

I am Hindu, and was told really confusing Mythological Stories for the most of my Childhood, until I decided to give up trying to derive sense due to Sheer Confusion and lack of logic.
Whats my stance on these stories now?
Yes.Your guess is as good as mine.
One of the stories, that caused me a lot of Confusion,
The Story of a Hindu god called Varaha.
How is that even logically/scientifically/sensibly/rationally/ woofusogically possible?!

May be all epics have an underlying meaning?

Hopefully you know what AI here means. When semen is transferred to the womb without a sexual act.Yes.
It is told that our ancestors knew this way before our Modern science did.

Magic potions created by sages for queens of childless kings to get women inpregnated were common happenings in those eras.
What were these substances? What they possibly could be were Fertility Drugs or may be Donated Semen?
Back them semen was considered very Divine. It seems. ACK! :/
• Birth of Hanumana (Description 1):
The first known mythological example is the birth of Hanumana (The monkey God). When Lord Shiva spurted semen at the sight of Vishnu who was in the form of the celestial enchantress Mohini (OFC semen donation after getting excited is a normal process today).
Sages collected this semen and gave it to the wind-god Vayu (symbolizes the process of centrifugation to select the best of the sperms)
who poured it into the ‘ear’ (mythical metaphor for the womb) of Anjani, who gave birth to Hanuman.
• Birth of Hanumana (Description 2):
There is another story where a confectionery was given to King Dashratha (Rama's Father)by Agni(Fire god) which was snatched by an eagle. The eagle dropped it where Anjana was meditating, and Varuna, the god of wind delivered the drop (centrifuged sperms) to her outstretched hands (the genitilia) of Anjana. After she took the divine sweet, she gave birth to Hanuman.

• Birth of Rama: (The fire god)Agni gave Dasharatha, a bowl of sacred sweet food, Again.(After having it snatched by an eagle the first time of course) to share among his wives by the mouth as they had been unable to conceive(Semen to be taken by the opening of the womb).

Test-tube babies in the time of Dwaparyug:
- Birth of the Sage Agastya
There is a hymn in the Rig Veda (VII.33.13), it says, when the Vedic Gods Mitra and Varuna saw the beautiful nymph Urvashi, their seeds fell.

One of these fell into a jar, and it was from there that the sage Agastya was born. Seeds here represent the semen and the jars either the womb (artificial insemination) or the petri dish for the In-Vitro-Fertilization.
- Birth of the Kauravas
In the Mahabharata (MB: I.114)
Queen Gandhari the wife of blind king Dhrithrahstra was carrying an over due embryo, & she heard that her husband’s, brother’s wife had given birth to a son which would make him eligible for royal succession.
She had been carrying the over due Embryo for a span of 24 masas (2years).
In Disappointment, she beat her pregnant womb repeatedly, until a hard mass of lifeless flesh traveled out of her. When she was about to throw it away, a sage instructed her to get a hundred pots full of pure Ghee instantly, and place them at a concealed spot.And to sprinkle cool water over this mass of flesh.
That ball of flesh, then, sprinkled over with water, was divided into a hundred and one parts about the size of a thumb. These were then placed in pots of pure ghee mixed with medicinal herbs and divine potions, which were hanged in a cave for a period of time.
Then, in due course, a hundred brothers and one sister were born, and they who came to be called Kauravas because they were from the family of Kuru.
Scientifically it all meant that the birth of Kauravas were all some type of IVF (test tube baby) procedure.
*BTW,1% of Newborns Now are Test-Tube Babies. Researchers say.

Clones and Procreation in the Vedic era:
- Daksha's children
In Puranas , Daksha the ruler of the earth, was asked by the Supreme Lord to procreate living creatures.
He is said to have produced ten thousand sons who were called “Hayashvas” (Joyful Horses).
They all became ascetics it seems. This happened the second time too. The third time Daksha initiated physical procreation, and his wife Ashini gave birth to sixty daughters. Of these ,thirteen were married to a divine personage named Kashyapa. It is said that every being in the world is a progeny of Kashyapa and Daksha's thirteen daughters.
The legend is more complex than this, of course with scientific aspect of it, but these stories were developed and presented by ancient Hindu thinkers in a way that we commoners cannot interpret.
How bad can this get ?!
These may be regarded as one of the first recorded instances of human clones since all the children were said to have been perfectly identical.
The core idea represents that there has been biological evolution attempts to propagate the species through asexual means, and that the feature of sexual reproduction that is common for the human species today is only a later biological invention.
- Raktabeej
A Demon by name Raktabeeja was able to produce his clones with a drop of his blood.
He was later Killed by goddess Kali.
*It seems, Ibex (An Animal similar to goat and ram) went extinct, was revived through cloning and once again went extinct. They say the reason for the extinction of the natural Pyrenean ibex is a mystery.
- Birth of Kartikey
Kartikey is a Mythological god with 6 heads best known as the son of Lord Shiva and Parvathi.
The Ramayana has two chapters on Kartikeya's birth in the Balakanda (chapters 36-37).
The stories of Salya, Anusasana (86th chapter in Mahabharata) and Balakanda consistently make Kartikeya the son of all five deities: Shiva, Agni, Ganga, Uma and the Kritikas.
As per Shiva Purana (page 162) Shiva and Parvati were married and the demi-Gods eagerly awaited their son. However Shiva and Parvati were so engrossed in their amorous activities that they had no time for the travails of the world. Ultimately the demi-Gods had to disturb Shiva and remind him of his duties.

It so happened, Shiva gave his seeds to Agni(Fire God) and Vayu(Wind God). They went near a river where the wives of seven sages were bathing. Six of them went to the fire (Agni) to warm themselves and were impregnated. On realising their predicament they left the seed in the form of an embryo in the Himalayas. The King of Himalaya, Himavan, unable to bear the heat of the divine embryo, placed it in the river Ganga (Ganga is the Daughter of Himavan) Where Kartikeya was born inside a lotus.
Some versions state that the six women left six embryos and six babies were born. Parvati embraced all six of them, thereby fusing the bodies to one but leaving it with six heads.
Scientific version states that the whole story explains the process of in-vitro fertilization in great details..
Once Shiva gave his seeds( the semen), The semen was centrifugated, so that the healthy sperms were taken out.Next they were handled by Agni, the process of incubation.The next process was the entry into the river, which means the Petri dish containing the eggs.Now starts the process of fusion into an embryo.
The six headed infant here means the six cell stage of the embryo ready for implantation in the womb.
The same was implanted in the Parvatis’ womb (in one story as she embraced the same) and in the Kritikas' wombs (the 6 native girls) in another part of the story.
Hence Karttikeya is described as a six-headed GOD representing that a blastocyst (six cell stage) can be implanted.

Regeneration and Organ transplants in the Hindu Mythology:
Transplant in the Vedic era involved parts like hands, arms, and legs, which are not vital organs and transplants of vital organs like transplanting the entire head, heart. It would be the most sophisticated organ transplant one can imagine.
Many asuras were capable of organ transplants.
Ravana was capable of regenerating his Head after being decapitated.
*Did you know, Humans can regenerate too. But, its only restricted to wound healing.
Also,We find an instance of this in the story of Ganesha(Parvathi's son) as one of the earliest examples of organ transplant where he was decapitated by Shiva and then was given an Elephant's head.
Similarly, Daksha (Parvathi's Dad) was decapitated by Shiva (-_-*) and was later given a Goat's head.
Shiva is Wilder than a peach orchard boar..

Asexuality in Ancient India:
Ganesha was born to Parvati without Shiva intervening, from the dirt of her skin : ( . Probably it was the first example of stems cells being used for the birth of a child using asexual means.
Only recently scientists have used bone marrow cells as a means of asexual reproduction in animal studies. Latest is use of skin cells to make liver cells.

Surrogacy in the ancient India:
In the Bhagvata Purana, there is a story that suggests the practice of surrogacy.
Kans (Maternal uncle of lord Krishna), the wicked king of Mathura, had imprisoned his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudeva (Parents of Krishna) because oracles had informed him that her child would be his death.
Every time Devaki delivered a child, he smashed its head on the floor.
They had 7 children, (Like rabbits in the jail ^.^ )
He killed six children. When the seventh child was conceived, the gods intervened.
Hence they transferred the fetus from the womb of Devaki to the womb of Rohini (Vasudeva’s other wife who lived with her sister Yashoda across the river Yamuna, in the village of cowherds at Gokul).
Thus the child conceived in one womb was incubated in and delivered through another womb.
I know I said I was going to be serious but i got carried away,
I know you are the kindest of people with the softest of knees.
*BTW, did you know that At least one parent should be biologically connected to the child being conceived in order for surrogacy to be considered?
